UM intramural teams compete in regional tournament

Congratulations to Bad Company and Femme Fatale, two University of Montevallo intramural teams that represented the University at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region II Flag Football Tournament, held December 5-7 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Both teams were given the opportunity to compete in this tournament by winning their respective flag football championship games at UM.

Approximately 300-400 students play each intramural sport offered by the University, and for many of them, intramurals are their main extracurricular activity. Their teams practice hard, and the tournament provided an opportunity for these students to meet people from other campuses within the region while competing at a higher level of competition. Additionally, it provided an opportunity to get the University’s name in front of publics who may not have previously been aware of this gem we know simply as “Montevallo.”

Bad Company, whose team members include UM students Kerry Daniels, Marquez Grier, Justin Harris, Josh Hobson, Michael Hagan Joiner, Jakian Jones, Devonta Maddox, Paul Mahaffey, Davis Myers, JoeAndre Sigur, Rio Smith and Byron Williams, made it to the playoff round at the competition.

Femme Fatale made it to the semi-finals. Team members include UM students Courtney Boyd, Lakeyia Conner, Chelsey Downs, Jasmine Fenderson, Sydney Fields, Tila-Monet Green, Brittany Gressman, Jessica Harrison, Ashton Kupferberg, Krista Metzler, Mary Parker, Gabrielle Pringle and Sydney Smith. Fields was named to the All-Star Team for the tournament.

This was the first year for UM to participate in competitive intramurals at this level with other colleges and universities. The competition placed a spotlight on the importance of intramurals at the University of Montevallo and on college campuses everywhere.
