Michael and Donna Grainger Establish Master’s in Counseling Scholarship

The University of Montevallo is proud to announce the establishment of the John and Agnes Grainger Endowed Honors Scholarship for Master’s in Counseling, made possible by a generous donation from alums Michael and Donna Grainger. The scholarship is named in honor of Michael’s parents.

This superior academic award will be granted annually to a student pursuing a graduate degree in counseling at the University of Montevallo.

Michael graduated from UM in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He is the former president and chief operating officer of Ingram Micro Inc., and has served on the Board of Directors of seven companies, both public and private. He also serves on the UM Foundation Board and on the College of Business Advisory Board. His wife, Donna, graduated in 1974 and worked at Bank of America in Nashville in the field of retirement plan administration. After eight years as vice president, she left to take care of their daughters, Charlotte and Caitlin, at home.

The Graingers, who currently reside in Franklin, Tennessee, have given back to UM generously over the years. In 2014, they established the Michael J. and Donna H. Grainger Endowed Chair in Business and Accounting. In 2016, UM’s center for professional practice in the Stephens College of Business was officially dedicated to them, becoming the Grainger Center for Professional Practice.

To be considered, a candidate for the scholarship must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates should also provide three letters of recommendation discussing their potential for success in the Master’s in Counseling program. Candidates will also meet at least one additional application criteria as determined by the program (i.e. writing sample, MAT/GRE score, etc.). The recipient will be selected by the faculty in the Counseling Department.
