Meredith's Story

Meredith Camacho has big dreams. Luckily, the financial support she receives as a Montevallo Ambassador Program Scholar (MAPS) and Montevallo MADE Scholar gives her the time and resources to make them come true.

Camacho arrived at the University with class credits through the Advanced Placement Program from her high school and from passing College Level Examination Program exams. As a result, though it’s only her second year, Camacho is only a few hours away from being classified as a senior.

If that sounds impressive, her career plans are even more ambitious. First, Camacho wants to climb the corporate ladder to become a chief operations officer. Then, she wants to use the financial resources collected from that job to create a nonprofit that gives basic hygiene access (think showers, bathrooms, etc.) to homeless populations across the country.

In between running a company and a nonprofit, Camacho also wants to travel the world as a seminar speaker for leadership and management.

Though it may be a decade or more before she can reach those goals, Camacho isn’t waiting around to make an impact. In the fall of 2022, Camacho interned with Shelby Emergency Assistance. That same semester, she led and organized an on-campus drive that resulted in $3,000-worth of hygiene product donations for the nonprofit.

She also manages the social channels for UM’s chapter of the American Marketing Association and is the pledge trainer and recruiting officer for Phi Chi Theta business fraternity. Camacho is currently completing an internship with the Department of Defense in Huntsville.

Camacho said receiving scholarships “allows me to explore these pathways and these other opportunities that I might not get otherwise.”
