Tailored Roads of Advancement for College & Career

GEAR UP Jefferson County has partnered with the University of Montevallo and Lawson State Community College to offer scholars an immersive educational experience to fit their college needs at no cost. This summer, GU-JC is providing three college options to meet the needs of our students.
Residential
The Residential TRAC will give students a full-time college experience while enrolled in college and living on the campus of the University of Montevallo.
Non-Residential
The Non-Residential TRAC will allow students the balance of home and college. Students will commute to the campus of Lawson State Community College – Birmingham while in enrolled in college courses.
CTE
Focusing solely on Career & Technology, the CTE TRAC will offer students accelerated courses on the campus of Lawson State Community College – Birmingham in their desired CTE field, opportunities to shadow a professional within their CTE pathway field and a potential paid internship.
Eligibility Criteria
- Completed application online
- High school and college (if applicable) transcripts
- Letter of recommendation
