Welcome to Commencement at the University of Montevallo!
Fall 2023 Commencement
The University of Montevallo will hold the Commencement ceremony in The Arena at Robert M. McChesney Student Activity Center on Friday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. We are proud to present the graduates of the Class of 2023 and celebrate their accomplishments as students and officially induct them into our national alumni association.
University Advancement and Alumni Affairs is sponsoring Senior Day which will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the hallway of the SAC. A minimum $5 donation includes a Chick-Fil-A sandwich meal and an alumni T-shirt! You will also receive a goody bag from the UM National Alumni Association. Your lunch contribution will be used to benefit scholarships at UM. Register here.
Rehearsal for the ceremony will take place in the arena at 1 p.m.— rehearsal is not mandatory, but we encourage seniors to make every effort to attend as important information about your transcript and the ceremony will be provided. Rehearsal should last no more than 45 minutes.
There are no tickets for this ceremony; however, we ask that you are reasonable when inviting guests so that every graduate may have adequate seating for family and guests. In this instance, we consider a reasonable number to be 15 guests each.
Should you have family members or guests with mobility limitations, they may be dropped off at the front of the building. Also, handicap parking is available in the lot in front of the building to those with handicap parking tags. Inside the arena, we designate the front rows of the bleachers for guests accompanying those in wheelchairs or with walkers.
Graduates should report to the front of the Student Activity Center no later than 4:30 p.m. wearing their cap and gown. We will line up on the sidewalk by college (i.e.: College of Arts & Sciences, Michael E. Stephens College of Business, College of Education & Human Development and the College of Fine Arts) unless the weather does not cooperate. In that case, we will line up inside the concourse along the right-hand wall.
The ceremony should last about an hour and 15 minutes.
Individuals needing disability-related accommodations during this event should contact the host department or Disability Support Services (205-665-6250, DSS@montevallo.edu) as early as possible. Efforts will be made to accommodate all access requests regardless of timing, but the University cannot guarantee that requests made with less than one week’s notice can be met.
The University of Montevallo Mass Communication Program will livestream the ceremony and it will be available on UM’s Montevallo for You channel.
