Minority Related Scholarships
- Minority Educators Education Scholarship (MESP) – This scholarship is provided though the College of Education and Human Development.
- MADE Scholarship – This scholarship is provided by the President’s Office and the Office of Diversity of Inclusion, but specifically through the MADE Program.
- Smitherman Minority Book Scholarship – This scholarship is offered through AwardSpring.
- David E. Crenshaw, Jr. Scholarship – This scholarship is offered through AwardSpring.
- UM LGBTQ+ Inclusiveness & Social Activism Endowed Scholarship – The recipient will be determined on an annual basis and will be awarded $500 per semester for 2 semesters or $1,000 annually. The award amount will increase based on growth of the endowment. Recipient must be a full time student at UM. Recipient may be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student. Previous recipients are eligible to reapply. Recipient will be a student w/demonstrated efforts to create inclusivity for underrepresented communities including LGBTQ+, Women, African Americans, Native Americans/Indigenous Cultures, Hispanic, Latino/Latinx, Asian/Pacific islanders, etc. with a proven commitment to diversity, advocacy, equality & inclusion. Recipient must submit a personal statement (no longer than 1,000 words that demonstrates experience in specific progressive social activism in any of the categories listed above. Recipient must be in good standing with the University and maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA The scholarship may be used by the student to pay any costs related to tuition or books. Birmingham City Schools Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships
As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we are excited to offer full-tuition scholarships for graduating valedictorians or salutatorians from local Birmingham City Schools.
Eligibility:
In order to qualify for the Val/Sal Scholarship, students MUST meet all of the following requirements:
-Must be entering as a first-time, full-time freshman student directly from one of the following schools in the Birmingham City Schools system: A.H. Parker High School, George W. Carver High School, Huffman High School, P.D. Jackson-Olin High School, Ramsay High School, Wenonah High School or Woodlawn High School;
-Be designated as the valedictorian or salutatorian of his/her graduating class;
-Score a composite ACT score of 18; and
-Must apply for Federal Financial Aid.
Award Amount:
The Val/Sal scholarship is an offer of full tuition renewable for up to 8 semesters. In order to continue to qualify for the Val/Sal scholarship, scholars must meet the following requirements:
-maintain required GPA;
-must enroll in a minimum of 15 hours each semester; and
-participated in the M.A.D.E program.
